Parents Disown Teenage Daughter After She Ran Away With A Man 33 Years Her Senior
There is no denying that people have become more accepting of a variety of different relationships, but there are still some kinds of pairings that will cause parents to disown their kids.
Many people believe that it is inadvisable for a young person to start a relationship with someone a lot older them, and families will often go to extreme lengths to end these relationships. Nineteen-year-old Michaela Matson is in a relationship with a man who is a staggering 33 years her senior, and, naturally, many people are skeptical of the pairing. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Matson from Omaha, Nebraska, talks about the dynamics of her relationship with William Maldera – a man who is old enough to be her father.
According to the teenager, she simply fell in love with the 53-year-old truck driver. Matson, who is currently studying photography at college, believes that there is nothing shameful about their relationship. She claims it is to all intents and purposes a normal, happy, and healthy pairing.
So how did a much older man manage to woo a girl who has only just begun her journey into adulthood? Well, back in 2016, the couple met on a ‘venting app’, which allows for to people complain about their lives to people they don’t know. Although the app isn’t necessarily a dating app, sparks flew instantly between the pair and the rest, as they say, is history.
“The first time I saw William’s photo, I was thinking, ‘Wow, he’s handsome,’ and was attracted to him straight away,” Matson said. “I liked his nose, it’s cute and crooked because his mom broke it as a child – then he has the most gorgeous light brown eyes that are completely breathtaking.” It took some months of constant chatting before the pair finally decided to meet up, and, when they did, they couldn’t deny the chemistry. The “undeniable chemistry” wasn’t a good enough explanation for Matson’s parents who told her to end the relationship. In fact, despite Matson being of consenting age, her parents even confiscated her passport and forced her to see a psychologist.
Mason knew that her parents were likely to disapprove of the relationship and that’s why she kept it under wraps for a while.
“My plan was to go and visit him without telling my mom other than leaving a note, but my man wanted me to tell her before I left,” Matson told the Daily Mail. “Then both my mom and William wanted me to tell my dad, I had a bad feeling about telling him, and I have never seen him so upset in my life. He threatened to disown me if I decided to keep dating William.”
However, Matson was determined to continue seeing her boyfriend and decided to get a new passport from the US authorities. She then made the move from Nebraska to Alberta, Canada, with her older beau in tow.
“Because I had given my mom my passport after telling my parents about what should have been my vacation with William, I had to apply for a new one and set aside money for myself to move in with him. But as soon as I saw him at the airport I dropped my luggage and ran.” “I was so excited and overwhelmed to finally meet [him] face to face,” Matson explained. Now it has emerged that the couple plan to marry despite the extensive opposition against their budding relationship. “He made me feel like I was at home immediately, and it’s been great ever since. A few months ago, he asked me to be his wife and I couldn’t ask for a better man as a husband,” Matson revealed.
“We are hoping to get married next August or September. Until then, I want to wait for my family to come around a little more and adapt.”
Whilst there are probably many reasons why a relationship of this nature is not advisable, it must not be forgotten that Matson is an adult who is legally allowed to make her own decisions about who she decides to date. Otherwise, she may decide that a life without her parents is the only life worth living – like the guy in this video below! All we can say is good luck to the couple, and, hopefully, Matson’s parents will soften their stance before alienating their daughter for good.
