20+ Rarely Seen Photos Of America In The 1950s Show How Different Life Was Before 0
The 1950’s are often viewed as a golden era in U.S. history, a time of happiness and prosperity, despite the threat of nuclear annihilation, racial segregation and the looming Cold War.
While most photos from the time are in black and white, color photography was still a relative novelty at the time and the film was quite expensive for regular people, the photos below are in glorious color. This means that they are more relatable, and makes the period feel closer to us than ever.
Many of the photos were collected by Denis Fraevich, a New Yorker of Russian descent who loves to bring the era back to life. “The pictures were found at auctions, flea markets and yards, digitized and posted on the Internet,” he told Bored Panda. “Someone’s happy life, someone’s dreams, important events, holidays and travel, for some reason were thrown into the garbage and became penny goods in a neighborhood sale. Seeing this is incredibly sad, but thanks to enthusiasts who buy and digitize old slides, we can raise the curtain of time and look at that era through the eyes of ordinary Americans.”
It is Denis’ hobby to search for these photos, he is fascinated by all things Americana and loves history, abandoned places and as you can see in many of the photos, classic American cars. “I am amazed at how often a car is present in the frame,” he said. “They obviously occupied a much more important position in the life of an American than in our time. Today, it is much less likely that someone would take pictures of their car or television.” Denis works as a Russian-speaking tour guide in NYC and has a fascinating blog, which you can find here. Uber Refuses To Refund Passenger Who Got Cheated By The Driver, So He Shares His Shocking Photos Online
Uber has become a phenomenon is the last few years, revolutionizing the ways many of us travel and shaking up the entire local transport industry. However despite its conveniences there are inevitably drawbacks, as this passenger found out to their cost.
Taking an Uber ride in Las Vegas, things turned from bad to worse for the user, who later uploaded snippets of a conversation with the company on Imgur.
The incident shows that while Uber is great for quick and easy trips around town at an unbeatable price, it does seem quite easy for drivers to charge a cleaning fee on their word and a blurry photo or two. While it is of course possible that the user did indeed have some incontinence issues, the accusation and the evidence provided leave plenty of room for dispute and put the user at risk of a dishonest or just plain grumpy driver taking them quite literally to the cleaners.
Scroll down below to check out how the incident unfolded, and feel free to join the discussion in the comments!
Buckle up for a memorable Uber ride in Las Vegas that turned from bad to worse in mere minutes

25+ Hilarious Comics With Unexpected Endings By War And Peas (New Pics)
War and Peas (previous post here), a hilarious creator duo from Saarbrücken, a town on the German-French border, published their first comic back in 2011. Since then, Jonathan Kunz and Elizabeth Pich’s project has been constantly growing into one of the funniest webcomics online, with almost 73k fans on Facebook and 127k Instagram followers today.
They tell their stories with a pinch of black humour that often leads to a quirky plot twist, which makes their comics so amusing. Although they seem totally made up, usually the duo gets inspired by our everyday life observations. “Elizabeth spends most of her time tramping around secluded German forests, eating high-calorie fudge bars, so most of her ideas come from those sugar highs. Jonathan just watches a lot of TV,” War and Peas told Bored Panda.
Anyway, who better to describe this work than its authors? This is the answer we got from them: “A Scottish bus driver laughed so hard at our comics that he drove right into Lake McGowanshire and died. Our condolences to his family. Thus it has been demonstrated the supreme quality of War and Peas.” To witness this for yourself, scroll down to see their new works from the last year, although after hearing the story of the Scottish bus driver we must warn you – they’re hilarious!

Every Day This Dog Rides The Bus All By Herself To Go To The Park
Meet Seattle’s celebrity dog, Eclipse, who takes a bus to a nearby park all by herself. “All the bus drivers know her. She sits here just like a person does,” fellow rider Tiona Rainwater told KOMO. “She makes everybody happy. How could you not love this face?”
It all started when the black Labrador and Mastiff mix was at a bus stop with her owner Jeff Young. Her human was taking too long to finish his cigarette. So, when the bus arrived, the pooch just got on it by herself and got off at the park. Since that day, the owner knows he can always catch up with her later in the park. The guy realized this smart girl can ride those 3-4 stops on the D line on her own and always knows where to get off.
Although some officers say that Eclipse should ideally be on a leash, King County allows dogs on public transport at the discretion of a driver. So, as this pooch causes no harm but only makes passengers smile, the drivers are always more than happy to give this four-legged miss a lift.
What about the doggie herself? Well, she seems to be proud of herself. Besides, her Facebook profile says: “I love my big city life and enjoy taking the D line daily to the Belltown dog park.” What a smart doggie!

Meet The Queen Of The Dark Who Was Told To Bleach Her Incredibly Dark Skin By Uber Driver
Meet Nyakim Gatwech, the South Sudanese model who’s teaching people not to be afraid of the dark. With her deeply pigmented skin and fierce determination, she’s breaking down the barriers of conventional beauty, and encouraging others to do exactly the same.
The 24-year-old burgeoning fashion icon, who now lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has no shame about her melanin, and she makes sure the world is aware. “My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors,” she captioned one of her many Instagram photos, which routinely exceed 10 thousand likes each. In another, she details an experience in which an Uber driver suggested she try ‘bleaching’ her skin – and her only response was laughter. “You won’t believe the kind of questions I get and the kind of looks I get for having this skin.”
Gatwech is not only an advocate for diversity in the fashion industry, but also a voice for Black rights around the world. She’s even been dubbed “Queen of the Dark,” a title she happily accepts. “Black is bold, black is beautiful, black is gold… Don’t let American standards damage your African soul.” Love the skin you live in, no matter what colour or shade it may be!

She simply responded with laughter, and has fully embraced her striking appearance ever since
“My chocolate is elegant. So is what I represent… A nation of warriors,” she captioned an Instagram photo
Now living in Minneapolis, Nyakim is a voice of encouragement for the Black community
“You are beyond beautiful and the love I have for you is unconditional because you are me,” she wrote
“Let’s show the world how beautiful and intelligent we are apart from just being dark skinned”
The burgeoning fashion icon has now gone viral, with over 100 thousand followers on Instagram
Though she still receives discouraging messages now and then, she refuses to give up her radiant self-love
She has even been dubbed the “Queen of the Dark,” a title she happily accepts
“My skin absorbs the suns rays and my hair defies gravity. Now you can’t tell me I’m not magical!”
